Disclaimer

HealthToad's calculators, trackers, timers and guides provide general information and estimates. They are not medical advice, they do not diagnose or treat any condition, and they are not a substitute for professional healthcare. Please read this page before acting on any result.

Estimates, not measurements

Every calculator on this site is built from standard formulas, published guidelines or common rules of thumb applied to population averages. Averages describe groups well and individuals imperfectly. Your basal metabolic rate, body-fat percentage, daily water need, calorie expenditure and similar figures are therefore estimates, typically accurate within a range rather than to the decimal place, and they can be materially wrong for people who differ from the average in muscle mass, body composition, medication, illness, pregnancy, age or genetics. Treat a result as a starting point for your own judgement, check it against your experience over weeks rather than a single day, and do not let a formula overrule symptoms, a clinician's advice, or common sense.

Not medical advice

Nothing on HealthToad — no tool result, article, guide or email reply — is intended as medical, nutritional, psychological or fitness advice for any individual, and no clinician-patient relationship is created by using the site. Do not start, stop or change medication, begin or abandon a diet or training programme, or delay seeking care because of something you read or calculated here. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, managing a long-term condition such as diabetes, kidney or heart disease, recovering from illness or injury, taking regular medication, or caring for a child or an older person, seek advice from a qualified professional who knows the relevant history before applying any general guidance from this site. In an emergency, contact your local emergency service immediately rather than consulting any website.

Accuracy, responsibility and external content

We aim to keep formulas, explanations and guides accurate and up to date, and we welcome corrections through the Contact page. Nevertheless, errors can occur, guidelines change, and a tool can be misused by entering wrong units or guessed inputs. HealthToad accepts no liability for decisions made solely on the basis of its estimates, and you use the tools at your own discretion. Results are provided “as is”, without any warranty that they are complete, current or suitable for any particular purpose. Where articles mention general research or public guidelines, they summarise them for a general audience; they are not a review of the medical literature and should not be cited as one. Any link to another website is provided for convenience only, and HealthToad is not responsible for that site's content or privacy practices.

If any part of this disclaimer seems to conflict with something elsewhere on the site, this page governs. If you are unsure whether a result applies to you, the safe course is to ask a clinician — and to bring the result with you, since a concrete number, even an approximate one, makes for a much better conversation than a vague worry.
