How it works

A calorie target only tells you how much to eat, not what mix to eat it as. This calculator splits your daily calories by percentage into the three macronutrients, then converts each share into grams using the standard energy values: four calories per gram for carbohydrate and protein, nine per gram for fat. The presets cover a balanced split, a higher-protein split for people training hard, a keto-style split that is very low in carbohydrate, and a lower-fat split, so you can compare how different the same calorie total looks in practice.

How to read the result

At 2,000 calories, a balanced split gives about 200 grams of carbohydrate, 150 grams of protein and 67 grams of fat, while the keto-style split gives only about 25 grams of carbohydrate but roughly 156 grams of fat. Neither is automatically better: protein needs rise with training, carbohydrate needs rise with endurance work, and fat needs a floor for hormones and vitamin absorption. Use the split as a daily average, not a rule for every single meal.

One practical tip

Start with protein, since it is the easiest macro to under-eat and the most filling. Once protein is roughly on target, let carbohydrate and fat flex with your training and preferences, rather than chasing all three numbers perfectly every day.

Fibre, vitamins and minerals are not shown by a macro split, so a diet can hit its grams perfectly while still being low in vegetables, whole grains and variety; use the split alongside food quality, not instead of it.
